  • Oldham Free School Meal Update

    Wed 08 Jul 2020

We have received the following information from Oldham Council regarding the COVID Summer Food Fund:

Oldham free school meals – are you eligible? Information for Oldham School Pupils

Oldham Council is urging families to check whether they are eligible for free school meals for the next academic year in September 2020.

The Coronavirus Pandemic has left many families with different financial situations than before. The worry is that more children will be left facing hunger and malnutrition because parents and guardians are struggling financially and aren’t aware of what they are eligible to claim.

Free school meal vouchers are now available over the summer school holidays and you’ll need to contact your local school by Friday 10 July 2020 to claim them.

You don’t need to make a separate claim for free school meals if you are already in receipt or have applied for Housing Benefit or help with your Council Tax. Oldham Council will use the information and evidence we have already provided to confirm yourentitlement to free school meals.

If you live outside the borough (except Manchester) and your child goes to an Oldham school. Then you will need to apply through your local council in the area where you live.

If people are resident in Manchester but their child attends an Oldham school, please complete the Free School Meals application form. For more information, and to access the form, visit www.oldham.gov.uk/info/200231/education_grants_and_allowances/161/free_school_meals

For any queries about free school meals you can contact the Council on 0161-770-6688 or emailbenefits@oldham.gov.uk

  • COVID Summer Food Fund

    Sun 05 Jul 2020

The Department for Education is providing a COVID Summer Food Fund voucher for those pupils eligible through ‘Means tested Free School Meals’ eligibility. For your family to receive this voucher, the Department for Education has asked all schools to use the EdenRed eCode voucher scheme, to distribute the COVID Summer Food Fund eCode voucher to families. This system uses emails of  parents/guardians to distribute the eCode vouchers. We will contact those families who have received their Partial School Closure Free School Meal vouchers via post separately to discuss how they can access their eCode vouchers.  ECode Vouchers should be released by EdenRed from the 12th July onwards. The eCode voucher will be for £105. This covers the 7 weeks that school is closed for Summer. The Department for Education has made it very clear in its guidance that the COVID Summer Food Fund ‘must be used for food’.

Please continue to check your email accounts from the 12th July including your Spam to ensure you receive the voucher.

Please follow the link to show you how to activate your eCode voucher to spend at the supermarket you select.
