Summer 1
Week 6
We had a fantastic time at this year's Cultural Fest, where we dived into the vibrant traditions of the Punjabi festival of Lohri.
We began by researching the origins and significance of Lohri, learning how it marks the end of winter and celebrates the harvest season. Our celebration was filled with hands -on fun and creativity. We made colourful kites, created themed arts and crafts, enjoyed popcorn around a symbolic bonfire, and shared our learning with other classes across the school. It was a fantastic day of cultural discovery and celebration!
Week 5:
This week we completed our sustainable cushions made from old clothes. Pupils worked hard to transform unwanted fabric into colourful, creative cushions. Throughout the project, they developed practical sewing skills and learned the importance of reusing materials to help protect the environment.
Week 4
Year 5 had a fantastic day exploring Quarry Bank Mill, where they stepped back in time to discover how cotton was made during the Industrial Revolution. Pupils also learned what life was like for a young apprentice, exploring the challenges children faced while working in the mill. It was a fascinating and memorable experience that brought their history learning to life.
Week 3
This week, Year 5 have been practising their sewing techniques, getting to grips with different hidden and visible stitches, as well as adding some appliqué and buttons.
Week 2
Our talk for writing unit this half term are portal stories. A portal story is a story that takes you on a magical journey through something (like a door) to somewhere else (to a different place or time in history). We will continue to rehearse our model text and explore the main features of a portal story. We cannot wait to write our own portal stories this half term.
Week 1:
This half term, Year 5 are exploring the vibrant world of Motown in their Music lessons. As part of their learning, they are getting to know the classic hit 'Dancing In The Street'. The song is bursting with joy, rhythm and energy and is a celebration of music and unity.
We're starting to learn the lyrics and practise the rhythm; it's great to sing along and move to as a class.
