Celebrations
Chinese New Year
At the beginning of this week the children started to think about Chinese New Year, we watched the story of Chinese New Year and then looked at what people do to celebrate. Children loved thinking about the animals in the story and acting out the race over the river. They also enjoyed making lucky dragons and choosing musical instruments to play along with the Chinese lion dancing.

Hannukah
Children in Nursery enjoyed learning about Hannukah during this week. We listened to the story of Hannukah and talked about how Jewish people celebrate. We practised using scissors to cut out the candles for the Menorah and counted how many candles they have.
Weddings
In Nursery the children have been thinking about Weddings, we shared experiences of weddings we have been to and focussed on our key words for the topic. We played snap using familiar pictures of our key words encouraging the children to say ‘I have found the……’. The children enjoyed making their own bouquets of flowers, decorating dresses for the brides to wear and comparing the sizes of wedding cakes.
Birthday's
This week the children have been thinking about Birthdays, they enjoyed listening to the story ‘The Best Birthday Present Ever!’. We loved making birthday cakes, Birthday cards, party hats, party invites and wrapping Birthday presents. We talked about the different things we might do at a Birthday party such as party games and we even had our own Birthday party in Nursery where the children came into school in their party clothes.
Remembrance Day
This week the children were thinking about Remembrance Day. We discussed the soldiers that died during the war and how they would have been feeling, we then made them bravery medals. We enjoyed making poppies using lots of different materials to help us understand why we wear poppies on Remembrance Day and to help us remember the soldiers that died.
Diwali
When learning about Diwali, the children in Nursery listened to the story of Rama and Sita, they then enjoyed using the character dolls to re-tell the story. We thought carefully about the story and why Hindu's celebrate Diwali. We also learnt about the different things people do at Diwali to celebrate such as lighting Diva lamps and making Rangoli patterns.
