Geography
Summer 2
Oldham and Bangladesh.
We will be learning:
- To compare and contrast human and physical features of Oldham and Syhlet.
- To identify seasonal and daily weather patterns in Bangladesh and compare them to Oldham.
- To recognise how the difference in weather is linked to the location of the country in relation to the Equator and the North and South Poles.
- To recognise a range of sources such as world maps, atlases and globes to locate Bangladesh and the United Kingdom.
Autumn 2
During Autumn 2 in Geography the children in Year 1 have been looking at our local area, Chadderton. We started this unit of work with a walk around Chadderton this helped us to use our fieldwork and observational skills to study our local area. They have also been working:
- To use simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the geography of their school and its grounds.
- To understand basic subject specific vocabulary relating to human and physical geography
- To identify the key human and physical features of the surrounding environment- Chadderton.
- To name different jobs that people might do in their locality.
- To talk about where they live.

Summer 1
As part of our geography work this half term we are looking at the United Kingdom and its four countries, we will be learning to:
- To name, locate and identify characteristics of the 4 countries of the United Kingdom.
- To name, locate and identify characteristics of the 4 capital cities of the United Kingdom.
- To create a map of the United Kingdom, illustrating the location of each country.
- Identify seasonal and daily weather patterns in the United Kingdom.
- To understand basic subject specific vocabulary relating to human and physical geography: Key human features, including: city, town, village, factory, farm, house, office, port, harbour and shop
- Identify the features of an island (when referring to the UK as an island).
- To be familiar with a range of sources such as world maps, atlases and globes to identify the four countries in the United Kingdom.
