Languages Day

At Bare Trees our pupils already learn how to speak Spanish with our Spanish teacher Mr Denny, but we have recently enjoyed learning a new language.

On Thursday 28th September we celebrated European Languages Day at Bare Trees. Each year group learnt a new language and completed exciting challenges throughout the afternoon. Year 3 learnt all about Portugal and can now use some simple Portuguese phrases. During the afternoon we learnt about Vasco da Gama, a famous explorer from Portugal, he was the first European to reach India by sea. His initial voyage to India (1497–1499) was the first to link Europe and Asia by an ocean route, connecting the Atlantic and the Indian oceans. We then created our own pirate maps showing Vasco da Gama's first voyage from Portugal to India. Some lucky groups also got to go out and do their own treasure hunt just like Vasco da Gama!
