Autumn 1
Week 8
In our recent Design and Technology Day, pupils enjoyed creating their moving toys which included a cam mechanism. Through this activity, they explored how rotational motion could be converted into linear movement, bringing their toys to life with a simple turn of a handle. The hands-on experience allowed them to develop practical skills such as cutting and shaping while deepening their understanding of mechanical concepts in a fun and engaging way.
Week 7:
What can we learn from Greek myths and legends?
Year 5 have been enjoying our History lessons on Ancient Greece. Pupils read Greek myths, including Jason and the Golden Fleece, Icarus and Daedalus, and Pandora’s Box. They worked in teams to act out the stories and present them to the class. At the end of the session, pupils discussed what lessons we can learn from the myths and legends, and questioned if there was any truth in them.
Week 6

Week 5
Year Five have been hard at work over the last few weeks building our vocabulary, grammar and story-telling skills in order to write our own, independent Warning Tales. We've used various writing techniques from our Settings Toolkit to describe settings such as an old canal, a derelict factory and an old, rickety bridge.
Week 4
Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed House Day, participating in a range of exciting team-building activities. Pupils worked together in their house teams, tackling fun challenges that encouraged collaboration, problem-solving, and communication. The afternoon was filled with energy, laughter, and house spirit, creating strong bonds and unforgettable memories for everyone involved.

Week 2:
Year 5 pupils have enjoyed starting their new Science topic about forces. During this unit, pupils perform various investigations to gain a greater understanding of about gravity, air resistance, water resistance, friction and various mechanisms. Here you can see them exploring gravity and air resistance by dropping differently sized balls from the same height and observing that they feel at the same rate.
