Debating

We have been learning about debating. We have been learning about parliament and also tried some debating ourselves!

We set up the hall and had a debate about the following motion:

"All pupils should be provided with tablet computers for use at school and at home".

The layout of the hall was similar to the House of Commons. There was a Speaker and rules for debate. For example, individuals stood up to show that they would like to speak. If required, the Speaker said, "Order, Order!" which means "Be quiet!"

Here are some of the things that we have learned:

"The Prime Minister meets the Queen weekly."

"I have learned that there are 650 people in the House of Commons."

"I have learned that the House of Commons gets very noisy so the Speaker says 'Order'."

"I have learned that the roles you have in debating are busy but everything we learned was interesting and fun and I would want to go to the House of Commons some day."

"I learned about parliament and debating. Before, I did not know about this. It's FUN now I know about it."
