Summer 1

Week 1

This week has been super exciting in Reception! We have started our topic 'Over On The Farm'. We started the week by visiting the farm. We had so much fun, we went on a tractor ride and fed the donkey magic bread, we watched the cows get milked, we rode on a donkey and we held lots of baby animals.

In Talk For Writing, we are learning how to write a recount of our farm trip, applying all our phonics and writing knowledge.

In Maths we are learning to count from 0-20 and sequence the numbers.

Week 2

We have been busy in Reception this week in our indoor and outdoor areas.

In our outdoor area we have been practising our subitising skills and our gross motor skills by throwing the hoop at a target and seeing who gets the highest/lowest number. In our sand area we have been making roads for all the big trucks to travel on- it has been so exciting.

In Maths we have continued our learning on numbers 1-20. The children are getting much better at counting up to 20 and sequencing the teen numbers. We have also been learning how we can make 20 using Numicon, it has been tricky but we finally understand the 1 in teen numbers is a 10.

In English/Talk for Writing we have been practising our recount to the farm, we have started to create our text map and matched some actions to each word.

Week 3

This week we have continued with our learning about the farm, creating text maps and starting our independent recount.

In Maths we have been learning about numbers to 20 and how we can make these numbers.

In Topic we have been learning about different types of farms and the jobs that different farms have.

We have also been focussing on our gross motor skills, using our trim trail. The children have really enjoyed walking across the tires and using all their upper body strength to move across the ropes. It is so important for us to use our muscles!

Week 4

This week in Talk For Writing we have been practising our text map, orally rehearsing in many different ways. This has really helped with some of our independent writing.

In Maths, we have been learning our double facts, we have used the 'doubling ladybird' to help us.

In Topic we are continuing our learning all about the Farm, we have learnt about different jobs that farmers do. The children have loved learning how different farmers do different things.

Week 5

This week we have been learning all about how to care for animals.

The children have done so well in explaining exactly what different animals, pets and wildlife.

In English we are continuing our learning on how to write a recount, we have created a text map of our Forest School Experience and are now learning how to write sentences about it.
