This week, Year 6 have been exploring the outdoor environment in order to classify plants in our local environment. We will use all this learning to create our own classification keys for plants or animals.
Week 5
This week on Thursday, 30 Year 6 children joined Sir Kevin Sinfield, at lunchtime, who was running through Oldham with his team for his chosen charity. They had great fun cheering him on, where they made a pit stop at Burnley Brow.
Week 4
As part of our English writing unit, Year 6 have been learning the suspense tale 'Kidnapped' using text mapping.
They have enjoyed working together, discussing the story, and spotting any interesting words or phrases. Text mapping has helped them learn the text really well and it will give them great ideas for writing their own suspense tale.
Week 3
This week, during English lessons, Year 6 have been learning the text 'Kidnapped' through text mapping. We have also used our drama skills to act out parts of our model text.
In Science, we have been learning about the animals kingdom and animals that are vertebrates (have a backbone). This website can give you more information on how to classify animals What is a vertebrate? - BBC Bitesize. Why don't you test your child by naming some animals and see if they can classify them into: fish, bird, mammal, amphibian or reptile.
Week 1-2
A wonderful start to Year 6!
Our Year 6 pupils have transitioned wonderfully into the new academic year. They've adapted quickly, grasping the classroom rules and routines. It's been a pleasure to witness their positive attitudes, dedication to their work, and the supportive way they encourage one another as they tackle new tasks. We're incredibly proud of their initial progress and eagerly anticipate the engaging learning experiences to come.
