Autumn 1
Week 7
Year 5 had a fantastic time putting their DT knowledge and skills into practice by designing and creating their very own cam toys! Throughout the day, the children worked incredibly hard, developing their practical skills through sawing, assembling and using glue guns. Their creativity, determination and teamwork certainly paid off, and the finished cam toys were brilliant! We are so proud of their hard work and achievements!
Week 6:
Year 5 pupils have been thoroughly enjoying their Science investigations on Forces. They have been developing their understanding of gravity, air resistance, water resistance and friction through a variety of hands-on experiments. As part of their learning, they designed, built and tested their own boats to investigate the question: Which shape of boat experiences the least water resistance? The children enjoyed testing their designs and discovering how different boat shapes affected their movement through water, while ensuring they carried out a fair test.
Week 5:
Throughout October, we will be celebrating Black History Month. In Year 5, we will be discovering the stories of inspiring trailblazers including Arthur Wharton, Diane Modahl MBE, Danny Welbeck and Marcus Rashford MBE. Each morning during Soft Start, we will also learn about a different influential Black person, celebrating their achievements, contributions and the impact they have made.
Week 4:
Year 5 have really enjoyed taking part in ‘Forest School For All’ this week. The children have had the opportunity to explore, learn and work together outdoors in a different setting. Sessions have taken place in half-class groups, allowing children to make the most of the experience. The activities will continue into next week, with the remaining children looking forward to their turn.
Week 3
As part of our first English writing unit, Year 5 have been learning the warning tale 'The Canal' using text mapping. They have enjoyed working together, discussing the story and spotting interesting words and phrases. Text mapping has helped them learn the text really well and it will give the children great ideas for writing their own warning tale.
