Maths
In Maths this term, we have been focusing on developing the children's spatial awareness, particularly their understanding of position and routes. The children have been learning to use words like "under," "over," "next to," and "behind" to describe where objects are, and to follow and create simple routes. Through games, stories, and hands-on activities, they are building important early Maths skills that help them make sense of their environment and prepare them for future learning in shape, space, and measure.
You can support your child's spatial awareness at home by using everyday language about position — for example, asking them to put their shoes under the chair or find their toy next to the sofa. You could also set up simple obstacle courses, go on treasure hunts using directional clues, or let your child help plan routes during walks ("Shall we go around the tree or through the gate?"). These little activities make learning fun and help strengthen important early Maths skills!
Police
We were delighted to welcome our local police officers for a special visit this past Monday. The children had a fantastic time asking insightful questions and even got the chance to try on pieces of the official uniform!
Maths
In our maths sessions, we are focusing on positional language—which is a fancy way of saying we’re learning how to describe where things are and how they move through space.
📍 What We’re Learning
The children are practicing using "direction words" to describe their world. We are focusing on:
- Positions: Learning to identify if something is under, on top of, next to, or behind.
- Routes: Talking about the paths we take, like walking from the classroom to the playground.
- Directions: Using words like forwards, backwards, and sideways during our games.
Little Lancashire Village
As we get ready for the trip we have been going through the timetable of the day, our expectations and familiarising ourselves with the space.
