Clean for the Queen
Fri 04 Mar 2016'Clean for The Queen' is a campaign to tidy up Britain in time for Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th birthday, which will be officially celebrated in June 2016. When the Queen came to the throne, litter was not the problem that it is today. Food packaging, plastic bottles and takeaway meals have all contributed to a growing menace that affects our wildlife, streets, countryside and sense of pride. So we are able to celebrate in style, the whole country is going to have a big tidy-up. In 1953, the year of the Queen’s Coronation, the first ever anti-litter campaign was run. So it is fitting that we have a big litter pick so the whole nation can enjoy our beautiful country on The Queen’s birthday.
The Eco Council will be going out into the local area to pick up litter on Friday 4th March from 10:00 - 11:45am and we are inviting parents to join us.
The Eco Council have also decided to hold an anti-litter poster competition. The best posters in the infants and juniors will be displayed on the school website, around the school and in the local area. We hope the posters help to reduce the amount of litter found in the future. The lucky poster winners will be be joining us for the clean up event.
