Spring 2
Week 4
We would like to wish all our pupils, families and members of our school community who are celebrating a very happy Eid. Eid Mubarak!
To mark this special occasion, Eid parties will take place in school on Monday 23rd March. Pupils are welcome to come to school wearing non-uniform on this day.
Week 3
British Science Week: Curiosity…What’s your question?
Year 5 had a fascinating time learning about the changes that happen in old age. They explored how people's bodies and abilities change as they get older, and discussed ways to help older adults live happier, healthier lives. They considered the importance of good food, regular exercise, a balanced diet, and staying active to support healthy aging and longer life.
For their task, Year 5 worked in table teams to come up with questions they were curious about regarding aging. Here were some of the questions they thought of:
- Is their hair the same colour as before? Why does it change?
- Do older people need glasses or hearing aids?
- Do you begin to suffer from memory loss?
- How do you mentally feel in your old age?
- Do they need help with some daily activities?
- What do you do to stay active as an elderly?
Each team investigated their question using research, and asked questions to an AI-generated 65-year-old, to find the answers. This developed their curiosity and, as a result, learnt more about how people change as they grow older!
Week 2
On Thursday 5th March, it was World Book Day. We took part in lots of book-related activities and dressed up as some of our favourite book characters for the day. We also learnt about our chosen author, Hannah Gold and recreated the front cover of 'The Last Bear' and included some facts about her.
Week 1:
In English this half term, Year 5 are exploring finding tales- stories where characters discover something unusual or unexpected. To immerse ourselves in this exciting narrative genre, we took part in a range of drama activities including 'placing the prop', 'reading the picture', 'teacher as narrator' and 'hot-seating'. These activities helped us step into the characters’ shoes, explore emotions and build rich ideas for our own writing. We had a brilliant time using our imagination and cannot wait to begin writing our own finding tales!
