Spring 2

Week 4.

This week in English, the Year 2 children have been busy planning their own warning stories. They explored how to describe a setting by visiting our school library and using their senses to gather ideas. The children also learnt about different story characters, including creatures such as vampires, werewolves, and goblins, to help inspire their writing. They practised using descriptive vocabulary to create exciting and slightly spooky settings. We were very impressed with their creativity and enthusiasm as they developed ideas for their stories.

Week 3.

This week, we celebrated British Science Week. The theme this year was “Curiosity: What’s Your Question?” In Year 2, our curious question was, “How do human hands change as they get older?” To investigate this, the children compared the length and appearance of hands from Nursery through to Year 6. They carefully observed similarities and differences, measured hand sizes, and discussed how our bodies grow and change over time. The children showed great curiosity and enthusiasm while working scientifically and sharing the results of the their findings.

Week 2.

This week the children have enjoyed celebrating International Mother Language Day by sharing and learning about the different languages spoken within our school community. They listened to stories, learnt new words, and explored how language helps us communicate and connect with others around the world.

Later in the week we celebrated World Book Day and children came to school dressed as their favourite book characters and shared their love of reading with their friends. Throughout the day, Year 2, took part in exciting activities linked to our focus author and book, which was Gorilla by Anthony Browne.

The celebrations helped to inspire a love of reading while also recognising and valuing the diversity of languages and cultures in our school. We are very proud of the children’s enthusiasm and the respect they showed while learning about one another’s backgrounds and favourite stories.

Week 1.

This week the children have been learning about multiplication and division through fun, practical activities and problem-solving challenges. They have explored making equal groups, sharing amounts fairly, and using arrays to help them understand how numbers work together. The children have also practised using repeated addition to support their understanding of multiplication facts. We are very proud of how confidently they are beginning to explain their mathematical thinking and apply these skills in different contexts.
