Spring 1
Week 6
Year Five put their chef's hats on and made healthy seasonal soups using winter vegetables. We had a wonderful time learning how to chop vegetables safely, prepare everything and cook it all. Most of all, we loved tasting our soups!
Week 5:
During Mental Health Week, Year 5 had a great time engaging in a range of activities designed to promote wellbeing and mindfulness. We learned about the Polyvagal Theory, which helped us understand how our nervous system impacts our emotions and reactions. The Pastoral Team delivered an insightful workshop and we made fantastic fidget toys and positive affirmation cards for the Wellness Fair. The week was a wonderful opportunity to connect with each other, learn valuable techniques for emotional regulation and celebrate the importance of Mental Health.
Week 4:
This week, our Year 5 children had an excellent day visiting Quarry Bank Mill as part of their history topic on the Industrial Revolution. They explored the historic cotton mill, watched the giant water wheel in action, and even tried their hand at weaving. Walking through the apprentice house, they discovered what life was like for child workers in the 1800s. The trip brought their learning to life, sparking curiosity and thoughtful discussions. A fantastic day was had by all!
Week 3
Year 5 were thrilled to be visited by actors from Oldham Theatre Workshop after winning a competition recently. The prize was a performance of the fantastic show 'Tales of the Toymender'. All the pupils enjoyed the show and a few lucky pupils were even part of an exclusive drama workshop with the actors from the show!
Week 2
This week, we kickstarted our Science topic by looking at the reproductive processes of plants. We had a lot of fun as we dissected some flowers, separating each part and understanding its role in the reproductive process.
Week 1
As part of our Design & Technology project, pupils got the opportunity to investigate and evaluate different soups. They carefully assessed and tasted various flavours, textures and ingredients, exploring how each each component contributed to the overall dish. Year 5 look forward to designing and making their own seasonal soup.
