Autumn 2
Week 6
During our DT lesson, Year 5 pupils created and cooked their own winter seasonal soup. They used their knife-cutting skills to prepare the vegetables and followed their adapted recipes to cook the dish. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are now hoping to persuade Miss Pinder to add their soup to the school menu!
Week 5
Year 5 have been thoroughly enjoying their music lessons this
term. The children have been learning to play the recorder and
are now confidently using the notes B, A, G and E. They have
enjoyed practising their finger work, learning simple tunes and
playing along with backing music to develop their rhythm and
timing. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and
growing musical skills each week!
Week 4
This half term, our P.E. focus has been on gymnastics. The children have really enjoyed exploring the large apparatus and gaining confidence using it. They have been practising a range of movements - including jumps, rolls and balances - and have tried hard to perform their full sequence on the equipment. It has been wonderful to see their control, coordination and enthusiasm grow each week.
Week 3
Year 5 have been learning all about the Alps in Geography, focusing on the Austrian city of Innsbruck. A popular tourist destination, Innsbruck has all sorts of interesting and fun things to do, and Year 5 found exactly what there is to do through researching tourist websites. It looks very different to our local area!
Week 2:
During Maths lessons this week, the Year 5 pupils have been learning how to multiply and divide numbers by 10, 100, and 1000. They have shown great enthusiasm for the topic and particularly enjoyed using their place value charts to help them understand how digits shift when a number becomes ten, one hundred, or one thousand times larger or smaller. This hands-on approach has really boosted their confidence and strengthened their understanding of place value.
Week 1:
After a well-earned half-term break, Year 5 have returned full of energy and excitement to begin our new Talk for Writing unit — a Tale of Fear titled ‘The Nightmare Man’. This week, we are focusing on text mapping, using pictures and actions to help the children internalise the model text. Through retelling and discussion, pupils are beginning to recognise how suspense is built and how powerful vocabulary can create tension. The class have really enjoyed bringing the story to life through drama and storytelling as they prepare to move on to analysing the structure and language in more depth next week.
