Autumn 1

Week 7- Fire Engines

This week in our DT lessons we have been making fire engines. This is a cross curricular link to our history topic about the Great Fire of London. We had a great time painting and decorating our fire engines and attaching the wheels and chassis.

Week 6- Which material is best for making a den?

This week Year 2 have been investigating which materials would be best for making a den. We used tinfoil, cotton, cardboard and plastic. We then poured over 1 litre of water. It was great to see whether our predictions were correct about the best material.

Week 5- How does sugar affect our teeth

This week we investigated how sugar can affect our teeth. We chose to focus on drinks. For this experiment we used egg shells which were placed into cola, juice, and water. The picture above is the end result which we were all suitably shocked by.

Week 4- RE: What are the features of a mosque?

This week we have been looking at the features of a mosque. We spoke about the features and then did a jigsaw which needed the labels adding on too.

Week 3- Making numbers to 100

This week Year 2 have been making numbers to 100 using base ten, Numicon and part, part whole frames. We had a really good time and had a game of who could make the number first.

Week 2- Great Fire of London project

This week Year 2 were set the task of creating a fact file, model or poster about the Great Fire of London as we begin our new history topic.

These are some of the great models which were brought in by the children.
