Winter Wonderland

Winter Wonderland

Our New Story: One Snowy Night

This term, the children will be enjoying our new focus story, One Snowy Night by Nick Butterworth. This beautifully illustrated story introduces the children to the sights and sounds of winter while following Percy the Park Keeper as he helps some animals on a cold, snowy night.

Through this story, the children will develop listening and attention skills, learn new vocabulary, and talk about kindness, friendship, and helping others. We will explore the story through storytelling, role play, small world play, and creative activities, helping the children to deepen their understanding and enjoyment of the text.

One Snowy Night- Hook into the story

We visited Percy Hut’s, where we warmed up by the fire just like the animals in the story. Then we helped feed the animals.

Learning with Numberblocks: Numbers 1–5

This half term, we will be using Numberblocks to help children learn about numbers 1–5. Through fun stories, songs and hands-on activities, children will practise counting, recognising numbers and understanding what each number represents. Numberblocks helps make early maths engaging and builds confidence with numbers.

Exploring Winter Clothing

This week, our little learners have been discovering all about winter clothing! The children have loved setting up their very own winter shop in the home corner, role-playing as shoppers and shopkeepers. They’ve also enjoyed getting creative by designing and making their own winter clothes, exploring colours and tools.

Winter Explorers at Forest School

Our curious learners embraced the chill as Winter Explorers at Forest School! We ventured outdoors to discover the subtle signs of winter, observing frosty leaves, birds feeding and the changing landscape. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature, ask questions and experience the magic of the season firsthand.

Talk for Writing- 'One Snowy Night' Five Sentence Story

This half term, we have been learning a five-sentence story for 'One Snowy Night'. They practised the five-sentence story by including actions. It has been wonderful seeing their confidence grow as they applied what they’ve learned over the weeks. Below is the story we have been learning.

One Snowy Night

Once upon a time, Percy the park keeper was getting ready for bed in his little hut.

One wintry night, snow began to fall heavily and the animals in the park started to feel very cold.

Unfortunately, their homes were too icy and snowy to sleep in.

Luckily, Percy heard their knocks at the door and kindly let them all squeeze into his warm hut.

Finally, everyone snuggled together and had a cosy, peaceful night’s sleep.

Mental Health Week

🌈 We’ve been learning to recognise different feelings and practice strategies to help us stay in the “green zone” for learning and play.

It was wonderful to share this learning with families during our Nursery Parent Stay and Play, where children proudly showed their understanding of the zones and the ways they manage their emotions. What a joyful and meaningful experience for everyone! 💛
