Spring 1 - Growing

This half term we will be learning about these stories:

Week 1:

This week we started learning all about our new story Jasper's Beanstalk. We had lots of fun exploring the soil. We were able to see if we liked the feel of wet or dry soil. We have been practicing singing about the days of the week to help us remember them.

Week 2:

This week we have continued to learn through the text of Jasper's Beanstalk. We have looked at measuring beanstalks and adding actions to the story. We have also planted our own beans which we are looking forward to seeing them grow.

Week 3:

This week we have been learning all about the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. We have been looking at the days of the week again and linking these to different colours. We have been creating our own caterpillars and using the skills of collage, to stick lots of pieces of papers on our caterpillar. In life skills this week we have been practicing cutting vegetables to prepare for when we make our vegetable soup.

Week 4:

This week we have continued learning all about 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar". We have loved learning the days of the week through a song. We linked each day to a colour of the rainbow and this helped to sequence the days. In our Life Skills lesson, we made playdough and carefully measured the ingredients.

Week 5:

This week we put all our learning from our Life Skills lessons together and created vegetable soup. We had to wash our hands and the tables, then we washed and cut the vegetables, before cooking them on the stove. We knew it was hot and we couldn't touch! When the soup was cooked we blended it together and some of us were brave enough to taste it! We had lots of thumbs up! In our maths lessons we also looked at heavy and light, exploring the balance scales.
