Spring 1
Week 6.
This week we celebrated Children’s Mental Health Week and the theme was This is My Place. This helped us to focus on our sense of belonging at school, at home, and in our community. We took part in many creative activities such as personal maps and collages. We finished the week with a fun wellbeing fair, where we made and sold our own wellbeing items.
It was a fantastic week full of learning, creativity, and celebrating the importance of good mental health and belonging.
Week 5.
This week, Bare Trees joined in The Big School Birdwatch!
In Year 2, we explored the school grounds with clipboards in hand, spotting birds all around. We kept careful tallies of every species we saw, from robins to magpies. This activity gave us chance to practise our observation and recording skills in a fun, hands-on way.
It was also a wonderful way to connect with nature and learn more about the wildlife in our school grounds.
Week 4
In Science this week, Year 2 explored bulbs. We began by planting daffodil bulbs in transparent containers, this allowed us to observe their growth from the very start. Next we made predictions about what might happen and how long it would take to see changes.
After that we dissected a daffodil bulb to investigate its structure.
Finally, we drew and labelled a detailed diagram of the bulb in our books.
Week 3
This week, Year 2 have really enjoyed celebrating National Handwriting Week. During our soft starts, we took part in a range of fun and meaningful writing activities. These included writing to-do lists, thank you letters, and thoughtful compliments for our classmates. We made a special effort to use our neatest, in everything we wrote.
Week 2
Year 2 had a wonderful visit from David Saville of Chadderton Community Church this week! He delivered a fun, interactive lesson that helped the children discover exactly why Harvest is so important to Christians. It was a fantastic opportunity for the class to learn about the values of thankfulness and sharing in a hands-on way.
Week 1
The children have enjoyed their first week back at school. They have started new units of work in both Science and History - we'll share more details about these laster in the term.
In Maths this week, the children have been enjoying their work with money. They have been practicing counting using both notes and coins, and challenging themselves to make different amounts. They have shown great enthusiasm and confidence as they explored a variety of ways to combine coins and notes to reach their target totals, developing their problem-solving skills along the way. It has been wonderful to see their excitement as they applied their learning in practical activities!
