Spring 1
Week 6:
During Children’s Mental Health Week, Year 5 took part in a variety of sessions designed to promote positive mental health and wellbeing. Pupils explored kindness, online safety, the benefits of smiling and the science behind kindness. A workshop delivered by the Pastoral Team encouraged us to think about belonging, feeling safe and being valued within our school community.
We particularly enjoyed getting creative by making 'squishees' as part of our contribution to the Wellbeing Fair. Overall, Children’s Mental Health Week was a positive and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
Week 5
This week has been the RSPB's Big Birdwatch! Year 5 have had an amazing time outside taking count of what species of bird they have been able to spot around the school grounds - even though it was rather chilly!
Week 4
In our Maths lessons this week, we have been working on multiplying fractions by an integer. We began by working on developing our fluency- which we mastered well! Then we moved onto problem-solving and reasoning. Next week, we will continue our work on fractions and use other operations to solve number and word problems.
Week 3
- Send a handwritten letter to a friend or family member
- Write a short story or poem
- Finger gym
- Practise writing your signature
- Fancy letters art - pick their favourite letter and decorate it.
Week 2
In our art lesson this week, we have been improving our drawing skills by looking closely at shapes. Instead of drawing what we think something looks like, we carefully observed the shapes that we could see. This helped us to draw more accurately and with better detail. We have learned that breaking objects into simple shapes makes drawing easier and builds confidence. Our sketches show great focus, creativity and progress as artists!
Week One
This week, after dusting ourselves down from the snow and shaking off the cobwebs after two weeks off, we kickstarted our Science topic by looking at the reproductive processes of plants. We had a lot of fun as we dissected some flowers, separating each part and understanding its role in the reproductive process.
