Autumn 1

Week 1

Welcome to Year 1! We hope you have had a lovely summer holiday? We are so excited for you all to be joining us this year. This year will be filled with fun activities!

Week 2

In Art we looked at the artist Piet Mondrian. We discussed and shared our opinions on his painting 'Composition with a Large Red Frame'. We talked about the different shapes we could see, the different colours, the size of the shapes as well as what we liked/enjoyed about the painting.

Week 3

In English we visited The Three Little Pigs! They showed us their homes, the materials they used to make their homes such as straw, sticks and bricks. They showed us round and all the fun things they have. We all enjoyed and had lots of fun with them!

(This was done for our hook lesson for when the children will eventually write their own story)

Week 4

This week in maths we looked at 'greater than', 'less than' and 'equal to'.

We discussed what each of the vocabulary meant and used concrete resources to represent each of the vocabulary.

Week 5

This week we visited the forest school during our Forest Friends session. We had lots of fun running and playing in the leaves, making necklaces and enjoying nature.

Week 6

When we went out for playtime the Big Bad Wolf came into our classrooms and blew everything down. He left our classrooms a mess! So in English we created a wanted poster using adjectives to describe the Big Bad Wolf so everyone can be on look out to catch him!

Week 7

During our art lesson we used different techniques, tools and media to create our own building in the style of Piet Mondrian. We used primary colours (red, blue and yellow) to paint our buildings but also added texture with the use of sands.
