Autumn 1
Science Fun!
Working in small groups, the children have created their own soil profiles, which involved identifying and labelling the four main types of soil (top soil, subsoil, rocky soil and base soil). When the children were discussing the different types of soils, they were encouraged to use the language structures to compare and describe the similarities and differences between the different soils.
Science - Soil Profiles - Year 3
Year 3 Half Term Project
In History, our topic is the Stone Age. We have been exploring the Mesolithic and Paleolithic periods and this week we have looked at the New Stone Age (Neolithic) period.
We explored what had stayed the same, the small changes and the big changes that occurred during the New Stone Age.
For example:
Big changes
Training oxen to pull the ploughs.
Growing crops such as wheat and barley.
They now have small farms.
Started to live on small settlements.
Small changes
Kept pigs and cattle.
People started to make pots.
People cleared woodland (i.e. this had already started).
Stayed the same
Some still hunted and gathered.
Continued to use stone tools.
We loved this activity!
HISTORY FUN!
ART!
In Art, we have been drawing and painting. We have been experimenting with mark making to represent texture and sketching and looking at shapes in monuments. We are now able to recognise the Primary and Secondary colours and have mixed watercolours to make tertiary colours.
Amazing art work Year 3! So many talented children. Enjoy!
What an incredible start to this Academic Year for all of the Year 3 children!
We have been very busy and working hard too.
This week in our Talk for Writing journey, we have had our 'hook' lesson which was an exciting drama lesson.
We found all the clues and worked out that this half term's warning story was the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We acted out the story and had lots of fun with the props!
