Autumn 1

Week 7

Year 5 had so much fun putting all of their DT knowledge  to the test and making their very own Cam toys. It took a whole day full of lots of practical skills, such as sawing and using glue guns, but the final results were excellent!

Week 6

As part of Black History Month, year 5 have been learning about Bilal: The first Muazzin. We learnt that Bilal ibn Rabah's heritage was of Ethiopian descent. His mother, Hamamah, was an Ethiopian slave, and Bilal himself was born into slavery in Makkah.

Bilal ibn Rabah lived during the 6th and 7th centuries. He was born around 580 CE in Makkah and passed away around 640 CE

Bilal's story has taught us the importance of:

  • Equality: no one is better than another.
  • Faith: believing in God can give you strength, even in hard times.
  • Courage: standing up for what is right.

Week 5:

Year 5 pupils are now halfway through their Science investigations on Forces and are thoroughly enjoying exploring the topic. So far, they have been developing their understanding of gravity, air resistance, water resistance, and friction through a variety of hands-on experiments. This week, they have been busy designing and building their own boats to investigate the question: Which shape of boat experiences the least water resistance? They are looking forward to testing them next week—making sure it’s a fair test, of course!

Week 4:

Year 5 had a fantastic time celebrating TT Rockstars Day! It was great to see so many children dressed up as rockstars, showing off their creative costumes and having fun. Pupils took part in different games and challenges on the TT Rockstars platform, all designed to build confidence and speed with their times tables.

Strong times tables knowledge is essential in maths, so it's important that pupils keep practising regularly to build confidence and keep their skills sharp.

Week 3

As part of our first English writing unit, Year 5 have been learning the warning tale 'The Canal' using text mapping.

They have enjoyed working together, discussing the story, and spotting interesting words and phrases. Text mapping has helped them learn the text really well and it will give them great ideas for writing their own warning tale.

Week 1- Week 2

A Great Start to Year 5!

Our Year 5 pupils have made a fantastic start to the new school year. They have settled in really well, quickly picking up the rules and routines of their new classroom. It’s been lovely to see them showing positive attitudes, working hard and supporting each other as they take on new challenges.

We’re really proud of how they’ve started the year and are looking forward to all the exciting learning ahead!
