Victorians

In the second half of the Autumn Term, Year 6 enjoyed our Victorians topic.

We started the topic by learning about Queen Victoria.  Pupils used different resources to research the Queen and understand what life might have been like under her ruling.

Next, pupils looked at the life of child in Victorian times.  We learned about Victorian schooling and how children in Victorian times had to go to work.  Pupils were interested in family life and where they lived.  We compared the life of a child in the Victorian era with our lives today and the children enjoyed looking at the similarities and differences.

The children really enjoyed linking our Topic work to our English lessons, using the story of Street Child by Berlie Doherty to inspire writing and drama.
