Children in Nursery have enjoyed learning about Hannukah this week. We listened to the story of Hannukah and talked about how Jewish people celebrate. We have been practising using scissors to cut out the candles for the Menorah and have been counting how many candles they have.

We played snap using familiar pictures of our key words encouraging the children to say ‘I have found the……’. Remembrance Day

This week the children have been thinking about Remembrance Day. We discussed the soldiers that died during the war and how they would have been feeling, we then made them bravery medals. We enjoyed making poppies using lots of different materials to help us understand why we wear poppies on Remembrance Day and to help us remember the soldiers that died.

Diwali

When learning about Diwali this week, the children in Nursery have been listening to the story of Rama and Sita, they then enjoyed using the character dolls to re-tell the story. We thought carefully about the story and why Hindu's celebrate Diwali. We then learnt about the different things people do at Diwali to celebrate such as lighting Diva lamps and making Rangoli patterns.

This week the children loved thinking about Bonfire night, we started by thinking about all the things we needed to do to stay safe on Bonfire night. Then we thought about the sounds that the fireworks make, using instrument to re-create the sounds and even thought of some actions to go with them. The children got very creative using pipe cleaners to make colourful firework paintings and art straw the make sparklers.
