English

Autumn 1

This half term the children in Year 2 have been looking at traditional tales including ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’ and ‘The Ugly Duckling’. Children have written their own sequel to ‘The Ugly Duckling’. We also looked at the text ‘Lost and Found’ identifying key grammar aspects including coordination and subordinating conjunctions.

Autumn 2

During the second half of the Autumn term the children absolutely loved learning about ‘The Great Fire of London’. The children wrote their own newspaper article outlining the details of the fire in 1966.

Spring 1

In the spring term we began to look at the author Anthony Browne in detail. We explored all the different stories and the children particularly enjoyed looking at ‘The Tunnel’ written by Anthony Browne. Children wrote the story with an alternative ending.

Spring 2

During the second half of the Spring term the children explored non- chronological reports about animals and wrote their own non- chronological report about a chosen animal to be sent to Chester Zoo! Children worked hard on ensuring their report including all the relevant features including a heading, subheadings, pictures and captions.

Summer 1

Children really enjoyed our pond dipping experience, all the children in Year 2 wrote their independent recount of their pond dipping experience including adverbials of time.
