Science

Spring 1. Plants

This half term we will be learning all about plants. We will be learning that different types of seeds grow into different plants. We will also be learning that plants can also be grown from seeds. We will be carrying out a comparative test into the conditions that affect germination.

We will also learning about how a plant changes as it matures.

In Science this half term we are investigating the uses of everyday materials. We have investigated how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed and we predicted the suitability of a variety of materials to construct a house.

We went to Forest school to carry out an investigation into the properties of materials which was linked to our History topic 'The Great Fire of London.' We made houses using cardboard, wood and brick and predicted which of those materials would be most suitable for building a house. Mr Wild then set each house alight and we observed how quickly each one burned. We then discussed our predictions to see if we were correct.
