Second half of Spring Term

This half term the children have enjoyed learning about Fairy Tales. We were very impressed with the children’s projects over the holidays. The Year 1 staff were able to make a beautiful display using some of the children’s contributions.

During our topic lesson the children enjoyed creating their own fairy tale story using their favourite fairy tale characters, such as Shrek and Elsa. Throughout our Design and Technology lessons, we created a castle, using skills to build turrets, drawbridges and walls.

On the 2nd March, we all enjoyed World Book Day. All of Year 1 had a fun packed day. The costumes the children came in were fantastic. In the afternoon, we enjoyed visiting the library to find new books to read. All the Year 1 staff would like to thank all adults and siblings who helped create the costumes at home.

The week commencing 6th March was Science Week. Throughout this week, children took part in numerous Science experiments. Such as, flowers changing colours through water, melting crayons, creating a lava lamp, making a cube bubble, melting ice and creating a rainbow using skittles. See how much fun we had in the photos below.

We had a busy Spring Term however we are excited for the first half of the Summer term topic which is ‘The Secret Garden’. We will be growing plants in greenhouses and outside. In Design and Technology, the children will be learning what we need to make a healthy drink and in Computing we will be learning how to control a Beebot.
